The Stooges Brass Band (aka The Stooges Music Group) is not new to the scene, but is rapidly gaining widespread fame. Gambit
calls them “one of the most sought-after, most controversial, and most competitive bands on the brass band scene.” Their funky, high-energy New Orleans brass sound is accentuated by members’ eye-popping dance moves.
Formed in 1996, the Stooges operated in the background of New Orleans’ music scene for too many years. In April 2001, the band earned the title of “Best Contemporary Brass Band” at the Big Easy Music Awards. Seizing this momentum, the Stooges toured major festivals for the remainder of 2012, hitting Bonnaroo, South by Southwest, American Folk Festival, and headlining the Utah Jazz Festival.
In addition, the Stooges battled for the title of “Red Bull Street Kings: Best Brass Band” in 2012, coming out victorious and winning an all-expenses-paid trip to Red Bull Studios, where they recorded four scorching videos and an upcoming E.P. with Mannie Fresh’s distinctive hip hop production techniques.
